8 Things You Should Know About Tooth Filling!

8 THINGS YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT TOOTH FILLING!

Three different materials are generally used as dental fillings today. These are;

Amalgam Filling,

Composite filling,

Porcelain fillings.

What is Amalgam Filling?

Amalgam filling, also commonly known as metal filling, is a mixture of mercury with tin, silver, copper and zinc. It is a long-lasting filling material resistant to high pressures. At the same time, being economical compared to other filling materials has made it widely preferred. The disadvantage is that it is not aesthetically satisfying.

What is Composite Filling?

Composite filling, also called white filling, is a plastic mixture of silicon dioxide particles. It has a highly preferred position due to the fact that it is in the same tone with the natural tooth color. Since it adheres to the teeth, it supports the tooth tissue and leads to the formation of a solid structure. In addition to this advantage, it is not preferred mostly in the back teeth because it is not as strong as amalgam fillings in situations requiring high pressure.

What is Porcelain Filling?

It is a filling material containing porcelain materials. Thanks to its structure that is resistant to high pressure, unlike composite filling, it is preferred with peace of mind in the back teeth. The advantage is that it adheres to the tooth and provides strength to the tooth tissue, but the disadvantages are that it is not economical and the application time is longer than other methods.

What should be considered after a tooth filling?

  1. After the filling process, eating and drinking should be started after the period determined by the dentist.
  2. It should not be innocently checked with small bites whether the numbness that occurs in the mouth area after dental filling treatment has passed. Because if the numbness persists, damage can be done to the gums and inside the cheeks without being noticed.
  3. After the dental filling treatment is over and the feeling of numbness is over, there is no harm in eating like old eating habits.
  4. After the filling treatment, it will be appropriate not to use the teeth, especially for breaking and eating hard foods. This will be indicated by the dentist.
  5. After tooth filling brushing your teeth and flossing does not harm dental fillings.
  6. If pain is experienced when the mouth is closed and pressure on the teeth increases after dental filling treatment, the dentist should be informed.
  7. In order for the filling to last longer, polish is applied on the tooth. This can take some getting used to.

Apart from all these situations, if you are faced with an unexpected situation, you should definitely go to the dentist for a check-up.
