LASER USE IN DENTAL TREATMENTS

What is a Dental Laser and What Does a Laser Do in Dental Treatment?

Dental lasersis one of the most important devices used by dentists in recent years. A laser is created by arranging the photons that make up the structure of light in a certain order and making them more powerful. Basically, the only difference between a laser and ordinary light is that the photons become much more powerful as they are concentrated.

In dentistry, lasers are used in numerous areas such as cutting, blood clotting and teeth whitening. The laser is easy to use; in some cases, the area is not numbed, the procedure is silent, and the tissue heals quickly after the procedure. Since it is selective, it only targets the decayed area. Lasers of different intensities are used depending on the type of procedure.

Laser Applications in Dentistry

Laser Assisted Implant

In terms of cavity opening, hard tissue work can be done most efficiently with Er:YAG and TEA-CO2 lasers. Thermo-mechanical removal of small fragments has proven to be more advantageous than vaporization of the whole material. By using laser energy, all the tissues of the tooth tooth decay can be cleaned. In addition, the laser sterilizes the environment and prevents future dental caries.

Use of Laser in Dentin Roughening

In the process using excimer laser and Er:YAG laser, according to the electron microscope images of the area, a surface roughness equivalent to etching using phosphoric acid can be achieved. A matt color difference is an indication that the process has been successful.

Laser Use in Bone Tissue

Er:YAG laser and CO2 laser are used in finger surgery, spine surgery, inner ear, skull base bone operations where anatomical conditions are difficult.

Gingivectomy

Gum length adjustments using laser bring great results in providing gum aesthetics. After the gum is cut and shaped with a laser without anesthesia, other procedures can be started without waiting for the bleeding to stop or the tissue to heal.

Tooth Surface Cleaning

Gum pockets heal very quickly after the deep gum cleaning procedure performed without anesthesia and using laser.

Pigmentation Treatment

Hyperpigmentation on the gums is treated with peeling in practical methods. In laser treatment, anesthesia is not used and there is no discomfort after the procedure.
