Dentistry is One of the Oldest Professions in History

The spread of dentistry from Europe to the whole world was made possible by the Renaissance

The developments in science in Europe during the Renaissance also manifested themselves in dentistry. Dentistry, which increased in popularity, spread all over the world. The first faculty of dentistry in the world was opened in the United States in 1839 and started to graduate the first diploma dentists. The first faculty in Turkey was established in 1908 under the name of Dental School within Istanbul University.

In the early days, the issue of dental health, which needed to be intervened due to the blackening of the teeth of the rich who consumed too much sugary foods, led to elephant tusk prostheses over time. However, since ivory prostheses were hard to find and easily broken, the teeth of deceased people, mostly soldiers, became popular as an alternative. It is known that crates of teeth were sent to England after the wars.

The Dental School in Turkey, which initially started with a two-year education, became a five-year faculty in 1964.

For thousands of years, dentists have been working hard to treat their patients with minimal pain. They also deserve the respect they have earned.
